Lexi Fleurs and Lazar Vazduharev, friends since childhood, decided to take a road trip through Ukraine.  

The record they brought back documents the stories of loss and resilience of the people they encountered, as much as their own bewilderments. A hardened soldier returning from the front. A DJ committed to making people dance in the face of the unspeakable. A mother laments, unsure as to whether her son is alive or not. Kids their age trying to have a “normal” night out that is interrupted by a warning of a ballistic threat – received by everyone simultaneously on their cell phones – before they all embark on an expedition to find the wreckage of the missile. Later that evening, Lazar plays the piano at their Airbnb.

The multi-channel, kaleidoscopic, video installation and accompanying photographs presented at gallery Punta is a rough cut of an ongoing experimental documentary project whose form will evolve over time.
